Stay Prepared for Data Disasters

Happy Computing Tip #100

You’re working on a big project for your company. Everything is going fine and your almost done when … BOOM! BANG! CRASH! A thunderstorm hits and a power outage occurs. Everything shuts down. Thankfully though you saved your work. However, when the power comes back on, your project is gone. *Panic mode activated* 😨… Don’t let this happen to you!! Backups serve as a safety net, ensuring that even in the face of data disasters, we can recover our critical data. Let’s discuss the two different backups you should implement right away.

Onsite Backups

Onsite backups are stored on a local storage device such as a hard drive or a USB flash drive. This backups offers quick access to your data if it needs to be recovered quickly and internet access is not needed. However, if your building caught on fire, the hard drive could be destroyed, which is why it’s important to also have offsite backups.

Offsite Backups

Offsite backups are stored on servers in the cloud. You can access your files any time as long as you have an internet connection. If something ever happens to your place of business (e.g. fire, flood, etc.), your data is safe. Plus, you can access your data from home, another office or anywhere else.

Backups Are Vital

In today’s digital world, data is an essential part of our lives. Whether it’s your important business data, precious family photos, or important documents, we recommend for you to have these two types of backups in place as soon as possible. We don’t want anyone to be the next victim of a data disaster. You will sleep much better, knowing that your critically important data is safe – no matter what life throws at you. So stay prepared! 😉
