Happy Computing Tip #102
How to Stay Private on Windows 10
By Switch, the I.T. Support Robot

Last week we started to talk about how we can tighten your security on Windows 10. Well it’s not over yet! Here are 2 more tips you can use to stay private on Windows 10.

  1. Don’t create a Microsoft account – Windows prompts you by default to create an account. If you’re concerned about your privacy, skip this step. If you don’t create an account, your info and activity will remain local to your computer. Whereas having an account will create a link for Microsoft to piece together data and trace it back to your identity. If you do decide to create an account, make sure you read Microsoft’s privacy policy. In order to delete or manage your Microsoft account go to Settings > Accounts > Your Account.
  2. Exercise Cortana Caution – Cortana is pretty cool. She’s one of the most exciting things about Windows 10. However, she’s too nosy. In order create a more personal experience, Microsoft created Cortana to a gather a lot of info about you. This can include anything from contacts, location, even handwriting and speech data. All your interactions with Cortana are stored in the cloud. This is all a part of Microsoft’s endeavor to make a more personalized experience for Windows 10. But if that’s too weird and intrusive for you, you can manage how Cortana works. Open Cortana’s Windows 10 Panel > Tap or click the Settings icon > Manage how Cortana works.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these privacy tips for Windows 10. If you have any questions about Windows or any other computer questions you may have, give us a call!  Stay tuned for next week’s email. Until then, Happy Computing!!!
