Do's and Dont's of Logging - Out of Online Accounts

Happy Computing Tip #77

We all use online accounts for our banks, e-mail, utility companies or other online services. Here are a few quick tips to help you protect your important online accounts:

  1. Don’t close or minimize your browser and assume that you have logged out of your account. Another user can simply return to your previously opened bank, credit card or e-mail website and see your accounts.
  2. Don’t click the “remember my user id and password” box. If your computer is stolen or someone else accesses your computer, your account is wide open.
  3. Do click “log out” before leaving websites that require a password. Use special caution when using public networks and computers.
  4. When using public computers, use the web browsers’ “Private Browsing” or “Incognito Browsing” mode. The makes sure that the browser does not store your logins or pages visited.
  5. After using public computers, clear the history, cache and cookies in the browser (especially if the browser does not have a “Private Browsing” feature).

We wan you to keep your online computing happy and healthy.

Happy Computing!!
